As a result of a strange crime, Westcombe Dairy supplied stolen cheese to Neal's Yard Dairy via Instagram. The company representative, Tom Kelver, stated that the theft was "completely open." He noted that their three producers had filed a report for people posing as wholesale suppliers for a large French distributor. "It was a case of cheating, theft, and fraud," he said.
Next, Neal's Yard Dairy reported that they are cooperating with law enforcement agencies to identify the culprits. The Metropolitan Police of London was notified about the theft on October 21. The statement clarified that a group of people committed a large-scale theft, stealing over 22 tons of handcrafted British cheese.
Neal's Yard Dairy became a victim of a strange theft and detailed the incident in a statement on Instagram last week. They reported a loss of over 22 tons of stolen cheddar cheese. The unauthorized buyer presented himself as a legal wholesale distributor for a large French trader.
After the company discovered the fraud, over 950 kilograms of cheese from Hafod, Westcombe, and Pitchfork were transferred to this. The losses were significant, but they decided to extinguish it long before the three artisanal producers could respond. Renowned chef James Oliver acknowledged that his millions of followers on social media should be alerted about stolen products, stating that the damage from theft amounted to 300 thousand pounds sterling.
Oliver stated that a significant block of precious cheese was stolen and expressed concerns that the cheese could be repurposed for fast food or commercial use. Not a single one of the thieves has been caught so far.
