An American runner thwarted an attempt to steal her mobile phone in the British capital London, successfully chasing down and apprehending the thief within minutes, leveraging her athletic skills in long-distance running. Cameras captured the moment a young man snatched the phone of 24-year-old Elizabeth Lopez Aguilar while she was filming a TikTok video in front of London's famous 'Millennium Wheel'. Elizabeth, who is currently training for Ironman triathlons, immediately gave chase. The American athlete told the 'Metro' newspaper that she initially thought it was a prank by her friend, but quickly switched into 'running mode' to pursue the culprit. With the help of her friend, Abraham Tahu, she managed to corner the thief and retrieve the phone by holding his arm. She confirmed she would not have stopped until she had recovered her property. Meanwhile, data from the Metropolitan Police reveal that 117,211 mobile phone thefts were recorded in 2024, representing a 25% increase compared to 2019. Reports indicate that only 1% of these cases result in formal charges or convictions.
