Netflix Begins Filming 'Bridgerton' Season 5 with Queer Storyline

Netflix has confirmed that 'Bridgerton' season 5 is in production and will consist of eight episodes. The new chapter will focus on the love story between Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling, played by Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza. In the original 2004 book, the character was Michael, a man, but the series reimagined the character as a woman. This significant step towards greater representation was approved by the saga's author, Julia Quinn. She stated it was extremely important for her to show Francesca's enduring love on screen and that she trusts the showrunners' vision. Showrunner Jess Brownelly explained that the series has always aimed to expand representation and that there is no place for homophobia or any form of intolerance in the world of Bridgerton. While there will be difficulties and conflicts for the characters, as with all Bridgerton stories, the narrative will be based on joy. Francesca begins her story in an emotionally devastating position after her husband's death. Her re-entry into society confronts her with unexpected feelings for Michaela, leading her to question her initial plans. Francesca, who is used to building walls to protect her vulnerability, is now excited to see them come down. Filming for season 5 has already begun on the outskirts of London. There is no official release date yet, but considering previous seasons have been released two years apart, a 2028 premiere is likely. While viewers await the new story, previous seasons remain available on the streaming platform.
