Pope Appoints New Archbishop of Westminster

Pope Francis appointed Richard Moth as the new Archbishop of Westminster and leader of the Catholic Church in London on Friday, making him the most prominent Catholic figure in England and Wales. Moth will head the largest diocese in the UK by Catholic population. He has served as the Archbishop of Arundel and Brighton in southern England since 2015 and was previously the Catholic Bishop for the Forces. Moth will succeed Cardinal Vincent Nichols, who held the position for 16 years and reached the mandatory retirement age of 80 for Catholic bishops last month. Moth, 67, was born in Zambia but moved to England at a young age.
