UK: Anti-Arms Protesters Face Mass Arrests

In the UK, the activist group Palestine Action, which opposes arms production, has been banned and labeled a terrorist organization. This has led to over 1,600 arrests, including mass detentions during solidarity protests and hunger strikes by prisoners. Authorities are using anti-terrorism laws to prosecute peaceful demonstrators.

UK: Anti-Arms Protesters Face Mass Arrests

Three protesters were arrested. In this dystopian case, a pacifist and anti-weapons group has been labeled as terrorist and its members imprisoned. This was the first action of a group affiliated with the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement called Palestine Action. Less than a year passed, and on May 31, 2021, during Israeli bombings of Gaza, in which even a press building was attacked, the group carried out a new, more ambitious action, also showing its growth. Four members of the group, dressed in red jumpsuits, climbed onto the roof of a drone factory belonging to Elbit Systems in Meridian Business Park, Leicester, opened its doors, and began a peaceful occupation. In this context, a massive mobilization of solidarity with the criminalized group took place. The non-violent action consisted of recording a series of videos with uncovered faces and several demands. Currently, dozens of people are imprisoned with no specific charges other than their association with the said organization. Even Roger Waters was warned that if he visited England, he would be arrested for having expressed support for Palestine Action on social media. On August 9, 2025, 522 people were detained in London for showing their support for this banned group with signs saying "I oppose the genocide, I support Palestine Action." On September 6, 2025, there were more than 800 detainees in London. An unusual incident occurred later when the British police arrested a mannequin. Since Palestine Action was declared a terrorist organization, the British police have arrested more than 1,600 people related to the group. In early November, two of the imprisoned people began a hunger strike, and others joined in the following days. In this "upside-down" world, opposing wars and massacres is condemned, while providing weapons "tested on girls and children in Gaza" seems to be synonymous with "success" and "institutionality." On July 30, 2020, with the population still affected by the pandemic, an Elbit Systems plant in London continued to produce weapons. The arrests are made based on article 13.7 of the British Anti-Terrorism Law. A spokesperson for the group said that "direct action will not stop until all Elbit headquarters are closed." The group participated in numerous demonstrations against the arms industry, with a main focus on Elbit, especially since the escalation of extermination against Gaza began in October 2023. In July 2025, with the support of a sector of the British parliament, the Palestine Action group was banned and classified as "terrorist" after an action with graffiti at the Royal Air Force base, the air branch of the British Armed Forces. Last weekend, support demonstrations were held in different English cities and in other parts of the world. Rapper and journalist Lowkey has just released a song in support of the political prisoners of Palestine Action. There have already been at least 1,600 arrests. Other activists gathered nearby with signs saying "Free Palestine." The occupation lasted six days, until it was evicted with a balance of 10 people detained. The direct action had a specific objective: to make visible and halt the production of weapons. In April 2022, two Palestine Action protesters chained themselves to the doors of a drone factory of UAV Tactical Systems Ltd, a subsidiary of Elbit Systems, in Braunstone. Also, an anarchist organization simultaneously carried out a blackout in the Adlershof technology park, considered a symbol of technology in favor of armamentism. The cost of unmasking warmongering imperialism. The unjustified persecution and labeling of a "terrorist" organization that has not caused any deaths or injuries is a sign of the weakness of the forces that claim to defend "democratic values" in every violent outburst they participate in. In July 2025, hundreds of people, including a priest and several medical professionals, were detained for participating in demonstrations in support of the movement. According to Prisoners for Palestine, those who continue to refuse to eat are Teuta Hoxha, Mrs. Muraisi, Kamran Ahmed, and Lewie Chiaramello. Last week they reached 50 days without eating. One of the detained people lost the ability to speak, and another cannot stand without fainting. This ban was considered "disproportionate" by the UN, as its experts considered that "simple material damage, without endangering the lives of others, is not serious enough to be classified as terrorism." A similar situation is also developing in Germany: on September 8, five people entered the facilities of Elbit Systems in the city of Ulm, in the south of the country. Both were admitted to the hospital for treatment. The main demand was the closure of the Elbit Systems plant in Ulm. Photo: AP. See video. Heba Muraisi, 31, in New Hall prison, continues her hunger strike (Prisoners for Palestine). At the beginning of this month, two activists, Qesser Zuhrah and Amu Gib, suspended their hunger strike in Bronzefield prison in Surrey after 48 days due to the deterioration of their health. Greta Thunberg participated in the demonstration and was detained. Greta Thunberg before being detained in a demonstration of support for the members of Palestine Action on hunger strike in prison.
