An airplane was forced to divert from its route and make an emergency landing in Belgium following a fight between passengers traveling from Antalya, Turkey, to Manchester, England. The incident occurred on a Jet2 flight. According to reports from various media outlets, two passengers got into a fight in the aisle. The racist insults were followed by physical altercations between the two men, one of whom was intoxicated, according to other travelers on board. It was also mentioned that they were complaining because a passenger was listening to music at high volume and someone tried to snatch their device. Some passengers panicked, and one testimony referred to it as “one of the most distressing experiences” on a plane. Some claimed to have seen blood and teeth on the floor after the fight, indicating the ferocity of the brawl. One of the fighters was described as “confrontational, intimidating, and openly racist towards passengers of Pakistani origin who were nearby.” The flight was able to continue its journey to Manchester once the situation was under control and those responsible were taken into police custody. Jet2 confirmed that flight LS896 was diverted to Brussels due to the “unacceptable behavior of two disruptive passengers.” Upon landing, Belgian police boarded the plane and removed the two individuals, who were taken off the flight and face sanctions. As a family airline, we have zero tolerance for this type of behavior and deeply regret that our customers and staff had to go through this situation, they stated in a statement.
