Anni Hollands from the United Kingdom has not consumed food for a decade due to a rare condition that even prevents her from enjoying the taste of food, causing her nausea. Beginning in her twenties, Anni started having health issues: headaches, obstructions, and a rare form of intestinal tract atresia, which made diagnosing her condition difficult.
Over time, her symptoms worsened, and she was diagnosed with autoimmune neurological damage, a rare atresia leading to attacks on the immune system affecting healthy cells of the organism. Anni underwent several surgeries, during which more than three meters of her intestines were removed, leading to the development of intestinal insufficiency, preventing the organism from absorbing necessary nutrients and liquids for survival.
Not being able to eat has hindered her communication with society, as she cannot participate in common food-related gatherings. Anni is forced to rely on intravenous mixtures, which enter her body through a vein every night within 12 hours. Due to the sensitivity of this process, strict sterilization procedures are required, as any infection can lead to serious complications, such as sepsis, which could become fatal.
In the face of the challenges she has encountered, Anni insists on transforming her experience into a source of inspiration and help for others suffering from similar conditions, stating: "My condition, possibly rare, makes it so I do not plan to give up, and I aim to leave a positive mark while supporting others in similar situations."
