A group of skin care experts in a beauty clinic in Great Britain has developed an electronic calculator that can be used online to determine whether work causes aging in workers. It is claimed that this calculator can communicate to the user, as aspects of work, such as hours worked, location, levels of stress, and physical activity, may lead to skin sagging and the appearance of wrinkles.
The experts refer to research from various institutions, including Harvard University and the World Health Organization, while creating this calculator. They noted that their research shows how work can influence the aging process.
To determine whether work causes aging in employees, the user needs to answer a series of questions, such as time spent in a seated position and stress levels. Based on the responses, the result will be represented by a number from 0 to 100, where results below 40 will indicate "mild aging," while results from 80 to 100 indicate "severe aging," with symptoms like hair loss, skin sagging, and dark circles under the eyes.
The calculator also warns that working unusually long hours in a week may lead to fatigue, burnout, decreased productivity, increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. It is emphasized that working in a profession that requires sun exposure seems ideal, but prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause pigmentation and other signs associated with "severe" aging.
The calculator also points to factors contributing to "severe" aging, such as exposure to chemical substances, for example, exhaust gases from cars.
