The British Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, expressed his willingness to send British troops to Ukraine to help ensure its security within the framework of the peace agreement. In an article published in the Daily Telegraph, Starmer emphasized the importance of deterring Putin from future aggressions as a fundamental step towards achieving sustainable peace in Ukraine.
Ahead of the upcoming summit of European leaders in Paris, Starmer stated that the UK is prepared to support Ukraine's security guarantees, even through the deployment of troops if necessary. In his words: "I do not say this lightly. I deeply feel the responsibility that comes with putting British military personnel at risk."
Starmer emphasized that any effort to secure peace in Ukraine equates to safeguarding the security of both the European continent and the UK. In this regard, he warned that the end of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine cannot become just a pause before a new aggression by Putin.
The possibility of British troops being deployed alongside forces from other European nations along the border between the Ukrainian-controlled region and the Russian-controlled region is being considered. Although these actions had initially been hinted at following a ceasefire, Starmer's formal announcement confirms the UK's commitment to providing military support in this crisis.
