Liverpool Extends Premier League Lead with Win

On Thursday, Liverpool increased their lead in the English Premier League standings to 13 points, defeating Newcastle United 2-0, while their closest challenger, Arsenal, drew 0-0 against Nottingham Forest. If the results this weekend were to gift Liverpool the title, now the team of Arne Slot seems unbeatable.

Goals by Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister in each half were sufficient for Liverpool's victory over Newcastle, who have dropped to sixth place in the table. Nick Pope could not stop Szoboszlai's strike in the 11th minute after a pass from Luis Díaz. Mac Allister doubled the hosts' advantage in the 63rd minute, when Mohamed Salah found him.

Liverpool went through a tough period of matches, finishing it with a draw away to Aston Villa, following a victory over Manchester City and now Newcastle. Only a catastrophic collapse can deny the club a 20th title in the English league.

"Arsenal's defeat to West Ham on the weekend drew the spirit from the London club, and although manager Mikel Arteta's team did not give up, the 0-0 draw with Forest became yet another nail in the coffin for their title dreams. Liverpool has 67 points from 28 games, while Arsenal has 54, although the latter has one game in hand."

Jake O'Brien scored his first goal for Everton, as the club from Merseyside drew 1-1 with Brentford, extending their unbeaten run in the Premier League under returning manager David Moyes to seven matches. Yoan Visser provided the hosts a lead.

City returned to the top 4 when Erling Haaland scored the only goal in the away victory at Tottenham. Haaland found the net from a close distance in the 12th minute and became the second player to score no less than 20 goals in the first three seasons of the Premier League. The only other player to achieve this was Ruud van Nistelrooy from Manchester United from 2001-2002 to 2003-2004.

Manchester United secured a tight win against Ipswich Town, winning 3-2 thanks to a goal from Harry Maguire, although they stayed in the bottom ten. A horrible mistake in the defence gifted Ipswich an early lead after Jayden Filozhen's goal. United equalized the match, and the captain of Ipswich, Sam Morris, scored with a close range finish in the 26th minute. Patrick Dorrgu was sent off two minutes before half-time for a dangerous fall on Omari Hutchinson, and Filozhen scored again, bringing Ipswich's third equalizer. However, tens of United players earned points when Maguire scored, dragging Ipswich deeper into the relegation zone.

"We controlled the game, and from the first minute, we felt that the players were starting to play, and we managed to score two goals." United occupies 14th place with 33 points, while Ipswich is five points away from safety after their sixth defeat in seven games.
