The work of Ai-Da, a humanoid artist robot with artificial intelligence (AI), will be auctioned on October 31, marking a milestone in the art world. Ai-Da was created by British gallery owner Aidan Meller in collaboration with Engineered Arts and researchers from the University of Oxford in 2019. Since then, her works have been exhibited in prominent places such as the United Nations and she has given speeches in the House of Lords in the UK.
One of Ai-Da's most notable works is a portrait of the English mathematician Alan Turing, considered one of the pioneers of computing. This painting, titled "AI God," standing 2.2 meters tall, is part of an online auction by Sotheby's that explores the intersection between art and technology. The auction will be open until November 7, and it is estimated that the portrait of Turing will reach a price between £100,000 and £150,000 (between $130,000 and $196,000).
Ai-Da is considered one of the most advanced robots in the world, designed to resemble a woman, with large eyes and dark brown hair. In 2022, to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri, Ai-Da surprised the public with a poem dedicated to the author of the "Divine Comedy." This auction of her work represents a significant step in the exploration of AI-generated art and its value in the contemporary art market.
