Britain announced on Thursday plans to modify the system of imposed sanctions against Syria. The UK government proposes changes to the sanctions regime to facilitate the process of issuing licenses for humanitarian operations and to ensure an adapted mechanism for providing assistance to the affected population.
"We are obligated to improve our systems to facilitate humanitarian operations and to ensure assistance to those in need," said the foreign minister. These changes will allow for more effective collaboration with organizations engaged in humanitarian assistance and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to areas where it is most needed.
"It is important that humanitarian deliveries can reach those who need them, without hindrance from the enforcement of sanctions," the minister added. The British government views the reform of the sanctions system as an important step towards enhancing the effectiveness of humanitarian aid in Syria.
