The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has expressed his determination to continue fighting in the conflict against Russia in his country, considering that having the United States on his side gives him a strategic advantage. During an intense week, Zelensky held crucial meetings and discussions with European leaders in search of support.
In an interview with Fox News, President Trump mentioned his interest in recovering a large sum of money in rare earths and expressed his desire for Ukraine to deliver a significant amount of these minerals to the United States. This Sunday, in London, Zelensky was warmly welcomed by European leaders, aware of the importance of preserving the alliance with the U.S. Given the need to agree on a plan for just and lasting peace, British politician Keir Starmer urged effective unity.
The previous week, Trump, after meeting with Zelensky and Vice President Vance, hinted that he had Putin's guarantees to finalize a peace treaty in the region. However, the diplomatic missions of European leaders such as Starmer and Macron failed to convince the U.S. president of the need for solid guarantees to prevent further violations by Russia.
During the meetings, Trump accused Ukraine of being responsible for the conflict and pressured Zelensky to make decisions that could jeopardize the territorial integrity of his country. The relationship between the two leaders significantly strained, highlighting the differences in their positions regarding the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. Despite this, Zelensky remained firm in his demands for secure guarantees and rejected yielding to Trump's pressures.
At the meeting in London, European leaders backed Ukraine and committed to providing military assistance to the country, funding this support with assets confiscated from Russia. In pursuit of lasting peace in the region, there is a need to involve Russia in the process, but without allowing it to dictate the terms of the agreement. Efforts to maintain unity among Western countries have been key in the negotiations regarding the crisis in Ukraine.
