Buenos Aires, Feb 17 (NA) — The unemployment rate in the United Kingdom rose to 5.2% in the three months leading up to December 2025, reaching its highest level in nearly five years, according to official data published on Tuesday. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) indicated that the unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous quarter, and the number of unemployed people reached 1.883 million during that period, according to the Argentine News Agency. Additionally, the employment rate stood at 75%, while the economic inactivity rate reached 20.8%, reflecting persistent weakness in labor market conditions. Total employment reached 34.244 million people, according to the ONS. The Bank of England warned that labor market conditions have weakened and that a further decline in labor demand could lead to a more pronounced increase in unemployment.
